President APF, Matthew Barrelle
Matt Barrelle is a businessman specializing in Sport, Entertainment & Property.
Barrelle was born 1971 in Sydney, Australia and gained the following qualifications: Graduated Sydney Grammar School 1989, Australian Securities Grad. Dip. (Finance & Investment 1993), Land/Economics Honors Degree, University of Technology Sydney (1996), MBA Melbourne/Hull University (1998), and was appointed a NSW Justice of the Peace (JP) by his Excellency the Attorney General (1996).
Barrelle began his career as NSW Research Manager for the Builders Owners and Managers Association (BOMA), before becoming the National Research Manger for L.J. Hooker, Australia’s most well known real estate firm.
In 1996 he began his entrepreneurial career as Commercial Director for Magna Data, where his team built then prepared for sale the Australian telecommunications carrier Magna Data (to ASX listed company Davnet). Prior to the acquisition by the Japanese telecommunications carrier NTT, Davnet had over 1000 employees and a market cap of US$2Billion.
Prior to the 2000 Sydney Olympics Barrelle founded then built the TSE Group (formally McGeoch McClean), a rollup of sports companies providing a variety of services to the major sporting events, where he was noted as Australia’s youngest CEO of a Public Company. Under this sports umbrella Barrelle focused on the commercialization of sporting bodies and events in Australia and the UK.
In 2001 Barrelle moved to Los Angeles (with UK business partner Mike Jefferies) where he spent 10 years founding, seeding then successfully producing the football Film Trilogy Goal! which was released in 40+ countries and became the most watched football films of all time. Goal! the Dream Begins (2005), Goal! 2: Living the Dream (2007), and Goal! 3: Taking on the World (2009) were released by distributors Buena Vista and Disney, and partnered up with FIFA’s official brand sponsors such as Coca Cola, Adidas & Mc Donalds. Goal! was filmed on-site with the actual teams of Real Madrid & Newcastle, with the official co-operation of the The English Premier League, The UEFA Champions League, and FIFA (via the 2006 FIFA World Cup). The films also included appearances from football legends such as David Beckham (first time in a film), Zinedine Zidane, Raul, Michael Owen, Ronaldo , Robinho, Cesc Fabregas, Thierry Henri and other well know celebrities from Hollywood & the Music Industry. Barrelle was also Executive Producer on the Official Documentary of the 2006 FIFA World Cup, directed by Michael Apted and narrated by Pierce Brosnan.
Barrelle is currently co-founder of the World Padel Club (WPC Ltd UK), a commercial organization dedicated to owning and operating a network of Padel Tennis Clubs in strategic locations around the World. Padel tennis is known as one of the fastest growing sports in the World, and WPC currently has Clubs spread across UK, Europe & Australia (where French Tennis legend Henri Leconte is the partner).
In 2010 Barrelle completed the 42 km (26 mi) Iceland Marathon then in 2012 competed in the 100km Brazilian Jungle Marathon, a self-sustained 'carry all food & supplies' race, which CNN rates as the ‘toughest endurance race on earth’. It takes place over a week in the wild Amazonian rainforest, with direct exposure to the tribes, jungle animals and Amazon river eco-system. In May 2012 Barrelle also completed the 1004 mile (1600 km) cycle race from London to Monte Carlo (for Breast Cancer Research), then the cycle from top to bottom of Portugal with the same group of crazy cyclists.
Barrelle has been a keen college/club level tennis player since his junior days, with memberships at the Hunters Hill Lawn Tennis Club (Sydney), White City Tennis Club (Sydney) and the Monte Carlo Country Club (Monaco). Barrelle is also an accomplished Padel tennis player: Current Captain of the Aus Padel team (Aussie Crocs), #1 player in Australia 2015, and currently holds the position of President of the Australian Padel Tennis Federation.
Barrelle is a pro-animal activist and divides his time between living in the South of France, Sydney and Byron Bay with his Canadian fiancé Cristina, their daughter Capri, son Blue and dog Rio.
Australian Padel Tour Manager, Matt Thomas
Matt Thomas begun playing Padel in 2005 when he was coaching tennis in Spain. He loved the sport and after playing the World Championships I begun a project in 2010 to bring Padel to the UK as there were only 2 courts there. Matt looked at lines of support for the project and had numberous videos on youtube and media appearences (Matt Thomas Padel…Padel Nation…Matt Thomas BBC) and in 2014 we opened Padel Nation in Birmingham which is the largest Padel club in the UK with 4 indoor courts.
At Padel Nation Matt launched the first junior padel programme in the UK. This was a year long project which resulted in managing and taking the juniors to the World Championhships in Maxico to represent the UK. The team performed fantastically well taking the bronze medal behind Spain and Argentina.
In December 2015 he moved to Sydney to manage Padel Sydney which is the only padel club in Australia. His role is raise awareness of the sport, coach people how to play and he manges the day to day running of the club.
Padel is a great sport which he is very passionate about. Matt is able to use his knowledge of competing to a high level but more importantly of managing venues and building strong networks of clubs and personnel to grown the sport. Now the club is set up he is able to bring a team of coaches in to run the programme.
